Scripture:

JOB 35:1-37:24

Christ Be Glorified

But it is wrong to say God doesn’t listen,
to say the Almighty isn’t concerned.
You say you can’t see him,
but he will bring justice if you will only wait.
You say he does not respond to sinners with anger
and is not greatly concerned about wickedness.
But you are talking nonsense, Job.
You have spoken like a fool.”

Job 35:13-16

My Takeaways

Something Old

“Let me go on, and I will show you the truth. For I have not finished defending God!
Job 36:2

Something New

  • Elihu is the friend we all want.
  • He tried to get Job to focus on God, not on the situation.
  • Wisdom literature shows us how to deal with life with wisdom.
  • Job teaches us about living life through the hard times.
  • We are not promised a life of rainbows and unicorns.
  • Because of the Fall, we live in a world of sin and suffering.
  • Suffering is common to all human beings; however, its expectation is more sure for Christians, due to our union with the suffering Savior.
  • For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21 (ESV)
  • As redeemed sinners, we don’t have to atone for our sin, because Jesus already did.
  • Our suffering has a sanctifying purpose; it is meant to deepen our relationship with Jesus, that we may “know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death” Philippians 3:10 (ESV)
  • As we follow His example, pain bonds us to our Savior as we allow it to do its inner, sanctifying, faith-building work.
  • The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:16-18 (ESV)
  • “In darkness God’s truth shines most clear.” – Corrie Ten Boom  The Hiding Place
  • We are guaranteed suffering in this life…the book of Job walks us through our thoughts and feelings, and shows us how to respond to the glory of God.

Something To Do

Remember to pray that whatever suffering God calls me to….that I glorify Him through it all.
