Then Job replied to the LORD,
‍Job 40:3

“Standing in the midst of the universe, a being conscious of the majesty and the might of the wisdom and power of God, I say with perfect honesty and accuracy, ‘I am of small account.’” – G. Campbell Morgan

How do I act after I hear from the Lord, am I:

• humble or haughty?
• submissive or stubborn?
• agreeable or argumentative?
• grateful or critical?

When we are confronted by God, we have three choices in how we respond: ignore it, choose confrontation, or respond with repentance. When we

• ignore the revelation, we tell God, “I’m not interested in changing. Mediocre faith is OK with me.”
• choose confrontation, we tell God, “You are wrong, that isn’t how it is at all. Why are you always picking on me.”
• respond with repentance, we cry out to God, “I am a sinner. You are my Savior. Your grace is sufficient to cover my sins.”

“Perhaps one of the most worshipful gestures of all is the uncommon one that Job here performs: covering the mouth with the hand. The act is a demonstration of total submission. One can fall on one’s face and yet continue to blubber and babble. But to yield the tongue is to yield everything.” – Charlotte Mason

Covering your mouth demonstrates that we are ready to humble and submit our heart.

The Lord challenges Job is the title of the first section of today’s reading. I pray I never experience such a challenge from God. Let it never be so, Lord, never. May my heart be pliable, submissive, and humble.

Respond rightly to God. It through His love, mercy, and endless grace that He reaches out to me concerning my sin.
