Scripture:

JOB 32:1-34:37

The Unpleasant Work Of Confession

Why don’t people say to God, I have sin,
but I will sin no more.
Or I don’t know what evil I have done-tell me.
If have done wrong, I will stop at once?‍

Job 34:31-32

My Takeaways

Something Old

For the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Job 33:4

I love this!

Something New

Sin influences our fellowship with God, so it must be dealt with.

It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
Isaiah 59:2

  • We don’t really believe we are that bad… a real sinner.
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
    1 John 1:8 (ESV)
“Our deceitful heart reveals an almost Satanic shrewdness in self-deception… If you say you have no sin you have achieved a fearful success, you have put out your own eyes, and perverted your own reason!” – Spurgeon
  • We don’t like war.
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5 (ESV)

John Piper, Desiring God

Something To Do

Deal with the unpleasant… my reflection depends on it.
