Scripture:

2 KINGS 2:1-25, 2 KINGS 4:1-44

Empty Equals Full

Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.

2 Kings 4:4

My Takeaways

Something Old

“God takes care to deliver his servants in ways that exercise their faith. He would not have them be little in faith, for faith is the wealth of the heavenly life.” - Charles Spurgeon

“You have God in the measure in which you desire Him” - Alexander Maclaren

We have to courageously exercise our faith:

  • Obey the hard, awkward, and even odd instructions
  • Pour out the resources we have
  • Trust God with the outcome

“It is not our emptiness, but our fullness which can hinder the outgoings of free grace.” - Charles Spurgeon

Something New

The prophets knew that the LORD was going to take Elijah to heaven.

The group of prophets from Bethel came to Elisha and asked him, “Did you know that the LORD is going to take your master away from you today?”

“Of course I know,” Elisha answered. “But be quiet about it.”
2 Kings 2:3

Something To Do

Don’t hinder God’s fullness and ongoing free grace, by staying full of my own self-sufficiency.
