Scripture:

PSALM 12-17, PSALM 19-21

Then I Will Be Free

Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.‍

Psalm 19:13b

My Takeaways

Something Old

David is well aware of his sin and is asking God to keep him from further sin. I love how AMPC (Amplified Classic) translation opens up the verses.

(12) Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults.

(13) Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then shall I be blameless, and I shall be innocent and clear of great transgression.

David specially asks God to keep from:

  • Sin made in error.
  • Sin that hasn’t been acted upon.
  • Sin proudly committed.

And I loved even more this quote by Adam Clark regarding secret or hidden faults:

"From those which I have committed, and have forgotten; from those for which I have not repented; from those which have been committed in my heart, but have not been brought to act in my life; from those which I have committed without knowing that they were sins, sins of ignorance; and from those which I have committed in private, for which I should blush and be confounded were they to be made public." - Adam Clark

From those which I have

  • committed, and have forgotten.
  • have not repented.
  • committed in my heart, but have not been brought to act in my life.
  • committed without knowing that they were sins, sins of ignorance.
  • committed in private, for which I should blush and be confounded were they to be made public.

To Be Free

  • We can only experience the freedom David is speaking of when we truly accept the cleansing Jesus offered on Calvary.
  • We have to truly believe He forgives and live like it.

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12

For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more. Hebrews 8:12 (ESV)

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)

This is so good!

Something New

Twice David talks about neighbors and gossip.

Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.
Psalm 12:2

Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.
Psalm 15:3

Something To Do

Live in the freedom I’ve been given. Accept the forgiveness He offers.
