So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD. He failed to obey the LORD’s command, and he even consulted a medium instead of asking the LORD for guidance. So the LORD killed him and turned the kingdom over to David, son of Jesse.‍

1 Chronicles 10:13-14

Your pride and joy, O Israel, lies dead on the hills! Oh, how the mighty heroes have fallen!
2 Samuel 1:19

• The forty years of the reign of King Saul ends. 
• It is a time of change. 
• It is time for a new chapter. 
• It is time for a king that will point the people to the Lord. 
• King Saul did not. 
• The life of King Saul has important lessons about what God expects from His people. 
• God judges us by our hearts, not our outward appearance. 
• 1 Samuel 16:7
• Saul looked the part of king on the outside…in the beginning. 
• Saul’s inner thoughts and attitudes began to show on the outside. 
• God wants us to have confidence in Him, not pride in ourselves. 
• James 4:6
• Saul believed his own “PR”...he had a “big head.”
• God rebuked him through Samuel. 
• God calls us to follow His will…not our own. 
• 1 Kings 2:2-3
• Saul was to be the one to model obedience, but he went his own way. 
• God calls us to follow His commands faithfully, not pick and choose. 
• Deuteronomy 28:1-2
• Pride, insecurity, fear, and impatience allowed Saul to do what he knew was not right. 
• Saul’s heart never belonged to God. 
• The life of Saul is a reminder to every believer. 
• We all have a sphere of influence. 
• Use it in the godly way in which we are called.

Be the leader that God has called you to be by pointing people to the Lord, not to self.
