Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 19:4
God repeats Himself, constantly. He wants to make certain that His children understand completely what He expects.
‍"God’s jealousy is love in action. He refuses to share the human heart with any rival, not because He is selfish and wants us all for Himself, but because He knows that upon that loyalty to Him depends our very moral life… God is not jealous of us: He is jealous for us." - Alan Redpath
The word idol here in Leviticus is defined idol is:Â
Like the Israelites, our faith, our nation, our traditions can become idols. Good things in our lives can become idols:
"Idol is anything that we come to rely on for some blessing, or help, or guidance in the place of a wholehearted reliance on the true and living God." - John Piper‍
Glorify Your name, not ours, O LORD! Cause everyone to praise Your loving-kindness and Your truth. Why let the nations say, “Their God is dead!” For He is in the heavens and does as He wishes. Their gods are merely man-made things of silver and of gold. They can’t talk or see, despite their eyes and mouths! Nor can they hear, nor smell, nor use their hands or feet, nor speak! And those who make and worship them are just as foolish as their idols are.
Psalm 115:1-5 TLB
I’m so thankful for grace… that because of Jesus and salvation, I will never be cut off from the Kingdom of God.
Bow to God… He is everything.
