Scripture:

JOB 12:1-14:22

He’s a Poet and He Didn’t Know It (2021 Archive)

As for me, I would speak directly to the Almighty.    I want to argue my case with God himself.

Job 13:3

My Takeaways

Something Old

You people really know everything, don’t you?    And when you die, wisdom will die with you!

Job 12:2

Something New

  • The Bible is 30% poetry.
  • Hebrew poetry is verbal art.
  • It is free verse, with no meter or rhyme.
  • Hebrew poetry is written in couplets, with the second verse finishing a thought of the first, describing in greater detail the first, deepening a thought of the first, or contrasting the first.
  • Hebrew poetry helps us slow down and think more deeply.
  • Wisdom literature explores the thoughts of God and His wisdom and justice.
  • Read Job first as a narrative. Understand the people and conversations.
  • Read without “over spiritualizing.”
  • Read for the theme: suffering.
  • Job is explaining to us the truth of Romans 8:28.

Something To Do

May I read through Job looking for God as He shows Himself to be wise and just.
