Your own mouth condemns you, not I. Your own lips testify against you.

Often my mouth condemns me, but my God does not; it’s a problem I’ve had my whole life. I’ve been convicted of and challenged to change this behavior. I’m a work in progress.

• Am I destroying my life?
  The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
  Proverbs 18:21

• Am I preserving my life?
  Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
  Proverbs 13:3 (ESV)

My words can speak life or death to myself.

Have you no fear of God, no reverence for him?
Job 15:4

Yes, you cast off fear, and restrain prayer before God.

Do I restrain prayer before God? Spurgeon considered ways that some do this.

Some restrain prayer before God because they:

• do not pray often or regularly.
• do not prepare their hearts properly to pray. They do not consider who they are praying to, the way their prayer should be made, that they are sinners, what they should ask of God, and thankful for what He has done in the past.
• pray in such a formal, strict manner that they never really pour out their heart before God.
• pray with little faith and much unbelief.
