Being Angry With God

David was angry because the LORD’s anger had burst out against Uzzah. He named that place Perez-uzzah (which means “to burst out against Uzzah”), as it is still called today.

1 Chronicles 13:11

My Takeaways

Something Old

Charah
cause
, fire to burn anger, Arabic burning sensation, in throat, etc., from rage and pain) —

Is it alright to be angry with God?

Billy Graham

John Piper

“One bold message in the Book of Job is that you can say anything to God. Throw at him your grief, your anger, your doubt, your bitterness, your betrayal, your disappointment—he can absorb them all.” - Philip Yancey

“By considering the scope of the Bible’s teaching on this subject, we may conclude that it is acceptable to bring all our cares to God, including matters that may move us to frustration or anger. However, we must not come to God in a spirit of complaint or anger against Him, for it is never proper to accuse God of wrongdoing” - R.C. Sproul

Something interesting thoughts from InspiredWalk.com

  • It is better to bring your anger and disappointments to God than to use or express your anger against God.
  • It is better to share your anger and negative emotions with God than to use your anger to attack or blame God.
So in our anger or disappointment, we must avoid making God the object of our anger or disappointment.
  • It is better to ask God to minister to you through your negative circumstances and to give you the grace and ability to manage your feelings as you face your tests and trials.

This is where I land on the issue:

  • It is acceptable, and understandable to be angry with things that happen in my life.
  • It is acceptable, and necessary to take my anger to the Lord to process my emotions.
  • It isn’t acceptable to blame God, because God is good, and is only capable of doing good for His children (Remember we don’t get to define good.).
  • It is necessary to believe God, and trust God, even when things aren’t acceptable or understandable.

With all these varying thoughts, including mine, which side of the issue do you land on? Is it, or isn't it OK to be mad God?

Something New

I wonder why David heard from the Lord that he would be king of Israel. How long did he follow in obedience, run for his life, and hid in caves before God revealed His plan to David?

In the past, when Saul was our king, you were the one who really led the forces of Israel. And the LORD told you, ‘You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be Israel’s leader.’”
2 Samuel 5:2

Something to do

Trust God with everything, and especially my feelings about everything.
