Today's Sponsor of the day is

Scripture:

JOB 40:6-42:17

Behemoth

“Take a look at Behemoth,
which I made, just as I made you.
It eats grass like an ox.
See its powerful loins
and the muscles of its belly.
Its tail is as strong as a cedar.
The sinews of its thighs are knit tightly together.
Its bones are tubes of bronze.
Its limbs are bars of iron.
It is a prime example of God’s handiwork,
and only its Creator can threaten it.
The mountains offer it their best food,
where all the wild animals play.
It lies under the lotus plants,
hidden by the reeds in the marsh.
The lotus plants give it shade
among the willows beside the stream.
It is not disturbed by the raging river,
not concerned when the swelling Jordan rushes around it.
No one can catch it off guard
or put a ring in its nose and lead it away.

Job 40:15-24

My Takeaways

Something Old

When it sneezes, it flashes light!
Its eyes are like the red of dawn.
Lightning leaps from its mouth;
flames of fire flash out.

Job 41:18-19

Something New

  • God tells us so much in His Word.
  • We miss a lot…and it takes our entire lifetime to catch it!
  • We keep looking at answers that the world gives us as more accurate than what God tells us.
  • God tells us a lot about the post-flood world in the book of Job.
  • Job is written a few centuries after the Flood.
  • The Lord describes a real historical creature in Job 40.
  • Job uses the ancient name “Behemoth.”
  • This is ancient history’s best surviving description of a dinosaur.
  • The word “dinosaur” is a new word that was invented in 1842…long after the book of Job was written.
  • Behemoth was a large animal, now extinct.
  • Verse 19 suggests that Behemoth was one of the largest, if not the largest, of God’s creatures.
  • In modern terms, behemoth was a massive, plant-eating sauropod.
  • No known living creature, like an elephant or hippopotamus as suggested by modern commentators, fits the passage adequately.
  • The tail is compared to a cedar.
  • Dinosaurs got on the ark…land dwelling animals.
  • Dinosaurs got off the ark.
  • They would eventually go extinct.
  • When God speaks, listen.
  • Dinosaurs
  • Dinosaurs and the Flood
  • Behemoth
