Scripture:

JOB 38:1-40:5

No Answers; No Explanations

Have you?... Do you?... Did you?... Can you?...

Various verses Job 38 and 39

My Takeaways

Something Old

“If we find it exasperating that God never gives Job any reasons for his long ordeal of suffering, then we have entirely missed the point of these final chapters. While it is true that the Lord’s answer to Job is neither logical nor theological, this is not the same as saying that He gives no answer. The Lord does give an answer. His answer is Himself.” -  Charlotte Mason

“One thought, and one only, is brought into the foreground. The world is full of mysteries, strange, unapproachable, overpowering mysteries that you cannot read. Trust, trust in the power, and in the wisdom, and in the goodness of Him, the Almighty One, who rules it.” - J Bradley

What is our response when God gives no answers or explanations?

  • Trust Him anyway.
  • Trust Him still.

Deuteronomy 29:29

  • The secret things belong unto the Lord our God, but the things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all of the words of this law.
    Amplified Bible Classic (AMPC)
  • The Lord our God hasn't explained the present or the future, but he has commanded us to obey the laws he gave to us and our descendants.
    Contemporary English Version (CEV)
  • There are some things that the Lord our God has kept secret. Only he knows these things. But he told us about some things. And these teachings are for us and our descendants forever. And we must obey all the commands in that law.
    Easy Reader’s Version (ERV)
  • There are secrets the Lord your God has not revealed to us, but these words that he has revealed are for us and our children to obey forever.
    The Living Bible (TLB)

Something New

Snow, a weapon?

Have you visited the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of hail? (I have reserved them as weapons for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war.)
Job 38:22-23

Something to do

Trust Him anyway. Trust Him still.
