“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”Â
Luke 5:5
Peter knew Jesus. He knew His words were powerful, yet what He was asking Peter to do didn’t make sense, but because he knew Jesus, and knew His words had power, he obeyed Jesus.
“But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” (NKJV)
So much can happen at the word of Jesus…
One of my favorite parts of this story is the conversation between Jesus and Peter. Despite the questions, he ultimately obeys Jesus. What a wonderful example of a follower of Christ.
In this experience, obedience produces:
The faith of the people I surround myself with matters.
While he was preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus.
Mark 2:2b-4
Master (epistata) is unique to the Gospel of Luke (Luke 8:24, 45; Luke 9:33, 49; Luke 17:13.)
Epistata offers the idea of Commander, Leader, or Boss.
Obey, I can experience all that the obedience produces.
