Jerusalem!

Jerusalem, once so full of people,
is now deserted.
She who was once great among the nations
now sits alone like a widow.
Once the queen of all the earth,
she is now a slave.

My Takeaways

Something Old

The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Something New

  • Jeremiah watches all of his prophecies as they are fulfilled. 
  • Prophet after prophet had proclaimed a message of repentance. 
  • Israel continued in its unfaithfulness. 
  • Israel’s unfaithfulness to the covenant has brought judgment. 
  • Israel has fallen to Babylon. 
  • Lamentations is Jeremiah’s lament over the city. 
  • The book is a book of Hebrew poetry. 
  • It is an acrostic. 
  • Jeremiah grieves as the once beautiful and prosperous city is leveled and destroyed. 
  • Jeremiah laments over what is happening. 
  • Jeremiah laments over what should have been. 
  • But Jeremiah still has hope. 
  • Israel was unfaithful. 
  • God is faithful. 
  • Jerusalem is destroyed. 
  • God’s mercies are new every morning. 
  • The consequences for sin are grievous. 
  • God’s Rescue Plan is still at work. 
  • There is still hope. 
  • His name is Jesus.
