Scripture:

PROVERBS 30:1-31:31

Unconditional Value

Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Proverbs 31:31

My Takeaways

Something Old

She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
Proverbs 31:25-26

Something New

  • There are multiple possibilities for the identity of King Lemuel.
  • Verses 10-31 are a Hebrew acrostic
  • Eshet Chayil: woman of valor
  • Context of verses 8 and 9: Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,  and see that they get justice.
  • This was often read on the Sabbath.
  • Proverbs 31 is a celebration, not a to-do list.
  • Our character that drives our actions is more important than the actions themselves.
  • Our actions are important, but we are not defined by what we do.
  • “She does her best, and she trusts God to give her strength.”

Something To Do

Do good, but remember our value is never in what we do, but in our identity as a child of God.
