Scripture:

HOSEA 9:1-14:9

Ground Breaking

I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD, that He may come and shower righteousness upon you.’

Hosea 10:12

My Takeaways

Something Old

God sadly said

  • You’ve made no progress. (Since the horrible events at Gibeah, Judges 19,  the Levite and the concubine. See April 6. A period when everyone did what pleased them in their own eyes.)

Fallow: plowed and left unseeded for a season or more; uncultivated; not in use; inactive

  • Hasn’t been plowed in a year.
  • Hard and stubborn
  • Resistant to seed

Fallowed ground must be broken. One commenter said, “If fallow ground could talk it would probably cry when it's plowed.”

It has no value to a farmer until it is broken up.

How do I break the fallow ground of my heart?

  • Seek the Lord: For it is time to seek the LORD

That’s it. That’s all. When we seek Him:

  • We will find Him. (Jeremiah 29:13)
  • All we need will be added to us. (Matthew 6:33)
  • He will reveal the secret things. (Jeremiah 33:3)
  • We will receive love and be showered with righteousness. (Hosea 10:12)

What does the Bible say about sowing and reaping?

  • The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
    2 Corinthians 9:6 (ESV) ‍
  • Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
    Galatians 6:7 (ESV) ‍
  • For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
    Galatians 6:8 (ESV)
  • ‍As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.
    Job 4:8 (ESV)

Something New

Gilgal was a center of idolatry but was once a place where the prophets were trained under Elijah and Elisha. (2 Kings 2:1, 4:38. Hosea 4:15, 12:11. Amos 4:4, 5:5)

The LORD says, All their wickedness began at Gilgal; there I began to hate them. I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels.
Hosea 9:15

Something To Do

Oh, that God would never say of me “You’ve made no progress.” Keep the soil of my heart fertile and soft.
