An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. “Turn the horses and get me out of here!” Ahab groaned to the driver of his chariot. “I’m badly wounded!”
1 Kings 22:34
Let’s look back at yesterday’s reading.
The men took this as a good sign and quickly picked up on his words. “Yes,” they said, “your brother Ben-hadad!” “Go and get him,” the king of Israel told them. And when Ben-hadad arrived, Ahab invited him up into his chariot.
1 Kings 20:33
Ben-hadad told him, “I will give back the towns my father took from your father, and you may establish places of trade in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.”
Then Ahab said, “I will release you under these conditions.” So, they made a new treaty, and Ben-hadad was set free.
1 Kings 20:34
The prophet said to him, “This is what the LORD says: Because you have spared the man, I said must be destroyed now you must die in his place, and your people will die instead of his people.”
1 Kings 20:42
Fast forward to today’s key verse:
Aligning myself with, and inviting the wrong people up in my chariot can lead to injury, and even death.
Side note: God always keeps His word.
The prophet said to him, “This is what the LORD says: Because you have spared the man I said must be destroyed, now you must die in his place, and your people will die instead of his people.”
1 Kings 20:42
The battle raged all that day, and the king remained propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran down to the floor of his chariot, and as evening arrived he died.
1 Kings 22:35
Very interesting
The rest fled into the town of Aphek, but the wall fell on them and killed another 27,000. Ben-hadad fled into the town and hid in a secret room.
1 Kings 20:30
‍And Micaiah replied, “You will find out soon enough when you are trying to hide in some secret room!”
1 Kings 22:25
Ben-Hadad hid in a secret room from Ahab.
Carefully and prayerfully evaluate who I invite into my chariot.
