Don’t long for “the good old days.” This is not wise.

Ecclesiastes 7:10

But I did find this: God created people to be virtuous, but they have each turned to follow their own downward path.”
Ecclesiastes 7:29

Many people live life comparing it to their past.
Many people think life in the years of their past was so much better.
Nostalgia longs for “the good old days.”
No such thing.
Scripture tells us this is foolish thinking.
Our amazing brains can erase the bad things of our histories and what we are left with is so wonderful…of course we want to go back!
There is a problem…it never happened!

Living in the past cripples the present.
It makes us cynical.
It makes us jaded.
It keeps us from seeing the good of God right now.
It keeps us from obeying God in His calling on our lives now.
It prevents us from being about Kingdom business in the present.
We learn from our past.
We enjoy the present we are living.
We press on in obedience to the future that God has prepared for us. ‍
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
