Scripture:

1 KINGS 4:1-34, PSALM 72, PSALM 127

When I Witness the Fulfillment

The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They were very contented, with plenty to eat and drink.

1 Kings 4:20

My Takeaways

Something Old

The population grew robustly and it was a season of great prosperity, allowing plenty of leisure time and pursuit of good pleasures.

I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.
Genesis 22:17

What is my response to God when the promise is finally fulfilled?

  • Rest in faith?
  • Let my guard down?
  • Attempt to live a double-life?

Contented: feeling or showing satisfaction with one's possessions, status, or situation

When the promise is fulfilled:

  • Continue to pursue Christ as you did before the promise was fulfilled.
  • Continue to obey God as you did before the promise was fulfilled.
  • Continue to study the Word as you did before the promise was fulfilled.
  • Continue to pray as you did before the promise was fulfilled.

Why? The promise has been fulfilled. Can’t I just sit back and enjoy the goodness and favor of God? No.

The enemy would like nothing more than for us to let our guard down. We become vulnerable to the enemy when we become relaxed in our faith.

  • The LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”
    Job 1:7 (ESV)
  • For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
    ‍
    Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)
  • Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
    1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)

Enjoy the goodness of God and celebrate His wondrous works and resist contentment while we continue to pursue God.

Something New

Hyssop has a special place in scripture. It’s amazing that it grew in the walls.

All about hyssop (Got Questions.org)

He could speak with authority about all kinds of plants, from the great cedar of Lebanon to the tiny hyssop that grows from cracks in a wall. He could also speak about animals, birds, small creatures, and fish.
1 Kings 4:33
