"If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the world."

Deuteronomy 28:1

Careful. Shamar: guard, keep watch, protect, watch for, wait for, retain, treasure up, (in memory) observe, and celebrate

Used 65 times in the book of Deuteronomy we assume the Lord wants us to know this word. 

Those who are careful are:

• Attentive: spend time with the Lord and in His Word
• Discerning: pray, and consider all options including consequences
• Prudent: proceed with caution and constant contact with God

What if I:

• viewed obedience through the lens of the consequence of disobedience?
• loved God too much not to obey Him?
• carefully handled instructions?

The siege and terrible distress of the enemy’s attack will be so severe that you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you.
Deuteronomy 28:53

I wonder if they thought, “No way. There is no way we would do such a thing.”

Fast Forward to the reading of June 16.

But then the king asked, “What is the matter?” She replied, “This woman said to me: ‘Come on, let’s eat your son today, then we will eat my son tomorrow.’ So, we cooked my son and ate him. Then the next day I said to her, ‘Kill your son so we can eat him,’ but she has hidden her son.”

Be careful with the instructions the Lord gives.
