You must never set up a wooden Asherah pole beside the altar you build for the LORD your God. And never set up sacred pillars for worship, for the LORD your God hates them.‍

Deuteronomy 16:21-22

When you are harvesting your crops and forget to bring in a bundle of grain from your field, don’t go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigners, orphans, and widows. Then the LORD your God will bless you in all you do.
Deuteronomy 24:19

• Moses ends this section with a call to holiness, but it sounds like something different. 
• This is the fourth time that Moses gives this warning. 
• Exodus 34:13; Deuteronomy 7:5; Deuteronomy 12:1-3
• Asherah: the Canaanite fertility goddess, also the consort of the god Ba’al. 
• Her worship included the use of an Asherah pole and immoral sexual behavior. 
• Later, King Manasseh would do the very thing that Moses warns about. 2 Kings 21:7.
• Today, we do not have a Tabernacle or a Temple. 
• We are the Temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19
• We should be on the lookout for our “poles”. 
• Matthew 7:3-5
• Syncretism is the practice of combining different beliefs and various schools of thought.
• A people compromised by sin cannot be used to transform the world. 
• We must avoid compromise. 
• We must repent. 1 John 1:9
• We must renew our minds. Romans 12:1-2
• God wants to use us to transform the world. 
• Get ready!

Do not practice Syncretism. Worship God alone. Get ready to be used by God to transform the world!
