My Takeaways

Something Old

Today, the grace of the graphic way Christ died for me to be right with God has overwhelmed me.

“Everything we have done today…”

We don’t have to do anything to be right with God. Jesus did it all. The blood, the beatings, the guts, and the gross, all so that we might share in His glory.

Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart,
Matthew 27:50-51

Christ was the perfect spotless lamb sacrificed for me.

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
1 Peter 1:18-19

“Everything done on that day” was so that I:

Might be right with God.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Might not have to make sacrifices for my rightness with God.

Christ suffered and died for sins once for all. He never sinned and yet He died for us who have sinned. He died so He might bring us to God. His body died but His spirit was made alive.

Might have life and joy that overflows.

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Might have eternal life.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
