The LORD called to Moses from the Tabernacle and said to him, Give the following instructions to the people of Israel.

Leviticus 1:1-2a

“If you present a grain offering to the LORD from the first portion of your harvest, bring fresh grain that is coarsely ground and roasted on a fire. Put olive oil on this grain offering, and sprinkle it with frankincense. The priest will take a representative portion of the grain moistened with oil, together with all the frankincense, and burn it as a special gift presented to the LORD.
Leviticus 2:14-16

• The book of Leviticus begins exactly where Exodus leaves off. 
• Moses is outside the Tabernacle, unable to enter. 
• That is the key to the book of Leviticus. 
• God desires to dwell with His people. 
• Their impurity would mean judgment in the presence of a holy God. 
• Leviticus reveals the sacrifices that would act as a temporary atonement. 
• The rituals symbolically cleanse the people from their impurity. 
• This maintained the holiness of God and provided a way for His people to dwell alongside His pure presence. 
• The laws and rituals call Israel to be holy like God is holy. 
• They set the nation apart from the nations that surrounded them. 
• They remind Israel constantly of their covenant with God. 
• They point to the Messiah who would come and fulfill all of the law. 
• The book might take a bit more work to understand. 
• Look at how much God loves His people…He didn’t say “no”..He said, “This is the way, walk in it.”
