Scripture:

GENESIS 40:1-23, GENESIS 35:28-29, GENESIS 41:1-57

Timing Is Everything!

Some time later, Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer and chief baker offended their royal master. Pharaoh became angry with these two officials, and he put them in the prison where Joseph was, in the palace of the captain of the guard. They remained in prison for quite some time, and the captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, who looked after them.

While they were in prison, Pharaoh’s cup-bearer and baker each had a dream one night, and each dream had its own meaning. When Joseph saw them the next morning, he noticed that they both looked upset. “Why do you look so worried today?” he asked them.

And they replied, “We both had dreams last night, but no one can tell us what they mean.”

“Interpreting dreams is God’s business,” Joseph replied. “Go ahead and tell me your dreams.”
Genesis 40:1-8

My Takeaways

Something Old

Two full years later, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing on the bank of the Nile River.

‍Genesis 41:1

Something New

  • Scripture uses two basic ideas of time: kairos and chronos.
  • Chronos is chronological, ordered time.
  • Kairos is God’s opportune time.
  • God is not subject to the limitations of chronos.
  • He works using chronos to bring forth His kairos.
  • Time has passed.
  • Joseph’s work was still hard.
  • Joseph’s suffering had not stopped.
  • Joseph’s circumstances had not changed.
  • The cupbearer and baker are thrown into the prison at the palace of the captain of the guard.
  • Joseph will serve them.
  • God places these people with Joseph for His purposes.
  • There two people had regular interaction with Pharoah.
  • They spent all day with him.
  • They would hear everything that Pharaoh said…even complaining about not sleeping.
  • God is always working. ALWAYS!!!
  • He prepares us first through chronos.
  • He uses us for His kairos.
  • God’s timing is not about doing things according to our timetable.
  • God’s timing is about doing things according to His purpose.
  • God’s timing is always right.
  • God’s timing is always perfect.

‍

Something To Do

Remember that God is not our personal cruise director. He works for our good and His glory. He works for kairos using our chronos.
