This is the account of Esau’s descendants, the Edomites, who lived in the hill country of Seir.
‍Genesis 36:9
The Bible’s genealogies
- help confirm the historical reliability of the Bible.
- reveal the importance of family to God and to the writers of the Bible.
- are also important in determining who could serve in certain roles.
- prove many Bible prophecies.
- teach how God has used a wide diversity of individuals throughout history.
What is the importance of Biblical genealogies?
Knowing our history helps us
- Repeat it.
- Not repeat it.
- Appreciate it.
- Learn from it.
- Trace the faithfulness of God, even when there seems to be no trace of God.
- Be motivated to make a change or make sure we stay the course.
It seems that despite Esau selling his birthright that things turned out alright for him.
Know my past. It’s important. Live my present so those that come after me and look back and are proud of where they came.
