Something Old

But the tribe of Dan had trouble taking possession of their land, so they attacked the town of Laish. They captured it, slaughtered its people, and settled there. They renamed the town Dan after their ancestor.
Joshua 19:47

Something New

  • Shiloh is a person.
  • Shiloh is a place.
  • Shiloh is a promise.
  • Shiloh is mentioned 32 times in the Old Testament.
  • These refer to a city.
  • One other time refers to a promise…and a person.
  • Genesis 49:10
  • This person is the Messiah, who would bring peace and tranquility.
  • Isaiah 11:1; John 17:3; Ephesians 2:14
  • The Israelites built the Tabernacle at Shiloh when they settled the Promised Land.
  • The Tabernacle rested there for over three centuries.
  • The tribes of Israel would visit for feasts or peace offerings.
  • From the time Israel entered the land until the time of the prophet Samuel, the Ark of the Covenant remained in the Tabernacle at Shiloh.
  • This is where the Promised Land was divided up in Joshua 18.
  • This is where Hannah visited the Tabernacle to pray for the son that she would name Samuel.
  • This is where the Ark is captured by the Philistines.
  • This is where God left His dwelling place.
  • This is a place that points out that our security is not in a building.
  • We will need a temple that can never be destroyed.
  • Jeremiah 7:1-15
  • Mark 11:15-17
  • Luke 21:6

Something to do

Be thankful that our security isn’t found in a building, but in Christ.
