You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.
Deuteronomy 30:20a
The key to life is a choice.Ā
Old Covenant: Chose Life (The Old Covenant)
A Transactional Covenant: When you do this, Iāll do this.
God expected the Israelites to love and obey Him.
New Covenant: Chose Life (The New Covenant)
A Relational Covenant: We are given the opportunity to receive salvation. Our responsibility is to exercise faith in Christ.
This love is more than a feeling; it is an active, abiding, ongoing relationship of following and obeying our loving Master.
āWithout love there can be no obedienceā¦. Without obedience love is fruitless and dead.ā - Adam Clarke
Since the key to life starts with love, we must pray and ask God to help us love Him. If this seems impossibleā¦
And all the surrounding nations will ask, āWhy has the LORD done this to this land? Why was he so angry?ā
Deuteronomy 29:24
The same answer applies today when the same question is asked.
And the answer will be, āThis happened because the people of the land abandoned the covenant that the LORD, the God of their ancestors, made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt. Instead, they turned away to serve and worship gods they had not known before, gods that were not from the Lord.
Deuteronomy 29:25-26
Love Him. Obey Him. Commit firmly to Him.
