NUMBERS 11:1-13:33

Staying Out of the Graves of Craving

So that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah (which means “graves of gluttony”) because there they buried the people who had craved meat from Egypt.

Numbers 11:34

My Takeaways

Something Old

God allows adversity to teach us to trust Him, not to cause us to turn from Him.

Something New

Kibroth Hattaavah – which means “Graves of Craving.”

“There are times when God grants an unwarranted request in order that men may learn through experience the folly of their desires.” - G. Campbell Morgan

God promised to provide for them, and kept His promise, but

  • The people wanted more.
  • The people wanted different.
  • The people wanted what they wanted.

“Remember, though, when God gives us what we desire and pray for, it does not necessarily mean that it is a blessing, as in this situation when the "blessing" turned out to be the instrument of death. It is a sobering lesson to keep in the forefront of our minds. Our prayer should always be, "Not my will but Yours be done. God, please remember I am just human."” - Forerunner Commentary

Great article on Graves of Craving

How not to create “graves of craving” in our lives:

  • Pray, not my will but Your will be done, O LORD.
  • Trust Him with what He gives, when He gives it, and where He leads, when He leads.
  • Daily die to self.
  • Keep your eyes on Heavenly, rather than earthly things. (Our lives will steer where we stare.)

Something to do

I will fall in a grave of my own making if I don’t maintain vigilance to avoid it.

Pray, not my will, by Thy will.
