Scripture:

EXODUS 39:32-40:38, NUMBERS 9:15-23

Shekinah

Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle. Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.

Exodus 40:34-35

My Takeaways

Something Old

On the day the Tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered it. But from evening until morning the cloud over the Tabernacle looked like a pillar of fire. This was the regular pattern—at night the cloud that covered the Tabernacle had the appearance of fire. Whenever the cloud lifted from over the sacred tent, the people of Israel would break camp and follow it. And wherever the cloud settled, the people of Israel would set up camp.
Numbers 9:15-17

Something New

  • Eden was where heaven touched earth, where God dwelt and communed with His people.
  • The nation of Israel longed for a taste of Eden.
  • Moses completed construction of a special dwelling in the center of the nation.
  • The people hoped it would be a sacred space, where heaven would touch earth, where God would remain with His people.
  • One year after their deliverance, the people waited.
  • The tabernacle was set up and anointed.
  • The priests were prepared.
  • All was made ready and right for God.
  • The glory of God – His presence, essence, wonder, and weight – moved in and encamped with His people.
  • When the cloud lifted, they would break camp and follow.
  • When it settled, they would remain.
  • The tabernacle was a temple on the move by God’s will…and the people followed.
  • We long for God’s presence…if only we had a cloud and fire to follow.
  • God recreated this “move-in” after Jesus rose from the dead.
  • God arrived through wind and fire.
  • This time, He dwelled even closer to His people.
  • Acts 2:2-4
  • Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection made the way for God to not only dwell among His people, but to dwell within them through the Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ made us ready and right…and God moved in.
  • We are His temple on the move.
  • God’s home is His people.

Something to do

God indwells the believer…His Spirit is in us! We need to live like it.
