If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them.

Titus 3:10

“Labour to convince him of his error; but if he will not receive instruction, if he has shut his heart against conviction, then – burn him alive? No, even if demonstrably a heretic in any one sense of that word, and a disturber of the peace of the church, God gives no man any other authority over him but to shun him. Do him no harm in body, soul, character, or substance; hold no communion with him; but leave him to God.” - Adam Clarke

Advice from Paul and Adam.

• Approach the person at least twice, to confront their sin and wrong thinking.
• Offer Biblical instruction.
• Walk away from the relationship if the person is unwilling to receive the instruction/counsel.
• Don’t do the person harm in body, character, or substance
• Don’t hold communion with the person.
• Leave the person to God.

This might be easier to do if you don’t have a personal relationship with the individual, but what if this person is a close personal friend or family member?

Timothy and I have something in common. We both had a mother and grandmother who were faithful to the Lord and passed their love for the Lord on to me.

Hold fast to my faith, even if it means walking away.
