Scripture:

ACTS 14:21-28, GALATIANS 1:1-3:23

Faith

But suppose we seek to be made right with God through faith in Christ and then we are found guilty because we have abandoned the law. Would that mean Christ has led us into sin? Absolutely not! Rather, I am a sinner if I rebuild the old system of law I already tore down. For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

Galatians 2:17-21

My Takeaways

Something Old

I say again what we have said before: If anyone preaches any other Good News than the one you welcomed, let that person be cursed.
Galatians 1:9

Something New

  • Jesus Christ is revealed in Galatians as our Liberty.
  • The power of Jesus’ death on the cross frees us from the curse of the law.
  • Grace is the undeserved and unearned gift of salvation from God.
  • Paul established the church in Galatia during his second missionary journey.
  • Paul wrote to the church to address the false teaching that Christians must follow Jewish law.
  • Paul wrote to the Galatians that they should lift up Christ’s crucifixion as the event that set them free from the curse of sin and the law.
  • The theme of Paul’s letter is “Christ crucified” or “the power of the Cross.”
  • Paul contrasted land and grace.
  • Paul began with Galatians 1:4 and declared what Christ had done through the power of the Cross.
  • The Cross has liberated us from the control of sin.
  • We are to stand firm in our liberty.
  • We no longer live our lives in bondage to sin…that life is gone.
  • We now live for Christ.
  • God calls…and we respond…until we see His face.

Something To Do

Look at yourself in the mirror each morning. Find your identity in Christ, and Him crucified. Respond to the truth of the Gospel daily…live your life for Him!
