Scripture:

EZEKIEL 24:15-25:17, JEREMIAH 34:1-22, JEREMIAH 21:1-14, EZEKIEL 29:1-16, EZEKIEL 30:20-31:18

O Egypt!

“O Egypt, to which of the trees of Eden will you compare your strength and glory? You, too, will be brought down to the depths with all these other nations. You will lie there among the outcasts who have died by the sword. This will be the fate of Pharaoh and all his hordes. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!”

Ezekiel 31:18

My Takeaways

Something Old

Then this message came to me from the LORD: Son of man, with one blow I will take away your dearest treasure. Yet you must not show any sorrow at her death. Do not weep; let there be no tears. Groan silently, but let there be no wailing at her grave. Do not uncover your head or take off your sandals. Do not perform the usual rituals of mourning or accept any food brought to you by consoling friends.”
Ezekiel 24:15-17

Something New

  • God had used the Egyptian empire in its past to show His power.
  • God is telling Egypt that the days of power will be done.
  • The first sign of weakening was loss of military power.
  • They didn’t have the resources to make weapons.
  • Conflicts within the nation led to a civil war.
  • They were divided and open for invasion.
  • Economic disparity leads to unrest in the population.
  • They began to see that the Ancient Egyptian gods were worthless.
  • Egypt becomes a mere province of Assyria, and then Persia.
  • Christianity would bring the end of what we know of as “Ancient Egypt.”
  • God used the Egyptian Empire for His purposes.
  • When He decided their time was done…it was done.

Something To Do

God will not be mocked. All earthly empires will fall like Egypt. The Kingdom of God will stand forever.

Pay attention to history…God is always working.
