Scripture:

1 SAMUEL 9:1-12:25

Confidence In Your Calling

So, they asked the LORD, “Where is he?” And the LORD replied, “He is hiding among the baggage.”‍

1 Samuel 10:22

My Takeaways

Something Old

"There may be some of you here present, who may be doing precisely what Saul did, only you are doing it more foolishly than he did. He did but hide away from an earthly crown, but you hide from a heavenly one." - Charles Spurgeon

Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
1 Peter 4:11

So, the people of Israel—every man and woman who was eager to help in the work the LORD had given them through Moses—brought their gifts and gave them freely to the LORD.
Exodus 35:29

When you come out of hiding and walk your calling with courage and confidence you step into the greatest adventure you can ever imagine. When you have doubts (and you will) remember:

  • Your initial moment with God. Saul had very memorable moment. There was no pomp and circumstance just God, Samuel and Saul. He was anointed with oil which was typically reserved only for priests.
  • God’s confirmation to your calling. God confirmed His plan for Saul in three unique ways. You may not have been greeted by someone with the two loaves of bread but I’m certain God confirmed His plans for you.
  • God selected you for a reason, His reason. Jump out from behind the luggage and walk confidently in your calling. He has equipped you to carry it out.

Our confidence comes from God.

He called us. He equipped us. He gives the confidence and spiritual courage to walk out our calling.

‍For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
Proverbs 3:26 (ESV)

Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God,
2 Corinthians 3:5 (ESV)

Something New

God has been touching the hearts of individuals for a long time.

‍When Saul returned to his home at Gibeah, a group of men whose hearts God had touched went with him.
1 Samuel 10:26

Something To Do

Don’t hide from what God has planned.
