You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days.‍
Joshua 6:3
We are expected to make sense of God’s instructions, we are expected to obey even when they don’t make sense.
Following unexplainable instructions
Following unexplainable instructions invites
Follow anyway.
"He [Joshua] yielded prompt and present obedience, ready and speedy, without shucking or husking, without delays and consults; leaving us herein an excellent precedent." - John Trapp
Emphasis added.
Giving these instructions to the people: “When you see the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD your God, move out from your positions and follow them. Since you have never traveled this way before, they will guide you."
Joshua 3:3-4a
Obedience will often lead us to places we’ve never been, so it’s imperative that we follow our High Priest. (Just like the Israelites were instructed.)
Very neat connection:
Joshua was told to take off his shoes when he reached the shore.
The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.
Joshua 5:15
Moses was told to take off his shoes when he was speaking to God.
“Do not come any closer,” the LORD warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground."
Exodus 3:5
I’m only responsible for obedience, not the explanation, the understanding of the instructions, the actions of others, or the outcome.
