Love God

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases Him, and love Him and serve Him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.

“Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your God. Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of His love. And He chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today."‍

My Takeaways

Something Old

“Therefore, be careful to obey every command I am giving you today, so you may have strength to go in and take over the land you are about to enter."

Something New

God repeats Himself often in Scripture.
He knows we forget.
This verse is a restatement of the Shema.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
This is also what Jesus called the greatest commandment under the Law.
Matthew 22:36-38
What does it mean to love God?
Love: the act of putting someone before yourself; serving the interest and well being of another.
Often we feel God is distant or we are disconnected from Him.
Is that because of a worldly definition of love?
Love is not a feeling.
Love is an action.
Loving God means we put Him first in all things.
To love God with our hearts is to center our affections on Him.
To love God with our minds is to renew our minds with His Word.
To love God with our souls is to direct all that we are (actions, word, and deed) toward Him.
To love God will all of our strength is to love Him as much as He loves us.
