Scripture:

NUMBERS 34:1-36:13

Boundaries

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your special possession, these will be the boundaries. The southern portion of your country will extend from the wilderness of Zin, along the edge of Edom. The southern boundary will begin on the east at the Dead Sea. It will then run south past Scorpion Pass in the direction of Zin. Its southernmost point will be Kadesh-barnea, from which it will go to Hazar-addar, and on to Azmon. From Azmon the boundary will turn toward the Brook of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.

“Your western boundary will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.

“Your northern boundary will begin at the Mediterranean Sea and run east to Mount Hor, 8then to Lebo-hamath, and on through Zedad and Ziphron to Hazar-enan. This will be your northern boundary.

“The eastern boundary will start at Hazar-enan and run south to Shepham, then down to Riblah on the east side of Ain. From there the boundary will run down along the eastern edge of the Sea of Galilee, and then along the Jordan River to the Dead Sea. These are the boundaries of your land.”

Then Moses told the Israelites, “This territory is the homeland you are to divide among yourselves by sacred lot. The LORD has commanded that the land be divided among the nine and a half remaining tribes. The families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received their grants of land on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho toward the sunrise.”

Numbers 34:1-15

My Takeaways

Something Old

“Command the people of Israel to give to the Levites from their property certain towns to live in, along with the surrounding pasturelands. These towns will be for the Levites to live in, and the surrounding lands will provide pasture for their cattle, flocks, and other livestock."
Numbers 35:2-3

Something New

  • All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

    2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • Skip nothing!
  • Welcome to AP Human Geography!
  • Physical Geography is the study of the science of spaces; it examines the structures of the world around us-both natural and man-made-as well as the formative processes of these.
  • Human Geography is concerned with the spatial patterns of humans and human activity over spaces and places.
  • Space: geometric surface of the earth.
  • Place: An area of bounded space of some human importance.
  • Toponym: a place-name.
  • Country: an identifiable land area
  • Nation: a population with a single culture.
  • State: a population under a single government.
  • Nation-state: a single culture under a single government.
  • Take a breath!
  • This is important, or God would not have recorded it. (See 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • This chapter tells God’s intended borders for the Promised Land.
  • This chapter has great relevance to our lives.
  • Genesis 12:3
  • God sets boundaries for His people.
  • Those who live within God’s boundaries will be blessed and protected.
  • Those who live outside God’s boundaries stand on their own against Satan’s attacks.
  • In modern times, Israel gave up the Sinai and the Gaza peninsulas as their southern border. Jesus will restore these lands during His Millennial Reign.
  • In modern times, Israel gave up the southern lands of Lebanon that it once occupied as its northern border. Jesus will restore these as well.
  • Today, in addition to the Golan Heights, Israel is also being pressured to give up the West Bank as its eastern border. Jesus will also restore these.
  • Boundaries matter…physical and spiritual.
  • God has a reason for everything He tells us in His Word.
  • We may not understand the first time…or the fiftieth.
  • Understanding that God is faithful and keeps His promises is a great place of understanding for today!

Something To Do

Continue reading hard parts of Scripture and not giving up. Sometimes God wants us to understand another precept first, before we are ready to learn another one. Sometimes God wants to walk with us through something, before we are ready to understand. Trust His heart.
