And the LORD said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. “Suppose a man’s wife goes astray, and she is unfaithful to her husband and has sex with another man, but neither her husband nor anyone else knows about it. She has defiled herself, even though there was no witness and she was not caught in the act. If her husband becomes jealous and is suspicious of his wife and needs to know whether or not she has defiled herself, the husband must bring his wife to the priest."‍

Numbers 5:11-15a

So Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of Israel listed all the Levites by their clans and families. All the men between thirty and fifty years of age who were eligible for service in the Tabernacle and for its transportation numbered 8,580.
Numbers 4:46-49

• Many in the world today believe wrong things about God. 
• Many believe that God hates women. 
• Many believe that the Bible mistreats women. 
• Many believe that cultural norms are biblical. 
• If we take a closer look at Numbers 5, we will actually see truth. 
• God has abundant mercy for women on display…even here. 
• God warned that Satan would be at war with women because the Savior would enter the world through her. 
• Genesis 3:15
• Because of this, we will see historical gendered oppression even in the pages of the Bible.
• Descriptive versus Prescriptive
• Numbers 5 is actually a protection for women and it foreshadows the beauty of the Gospel. 
• God’s statutes are worth understanding even when we are unsure of them, because WE TRUST GOD’S CHARACTER. 
• Psalm 119:68
• Numbers 5 is a trial by ordeal. 
• In God’s law, it would be a miracle if an innocent woman was proven guilty by the trial. 
• The woman is naturally protected by the process. 
• The mediation of the priest protects her. God, the just Judge, steps in to protect the women. 
• We see Numbers 5 fulfilled in Christ…John 8; Luke 7
• Jesus on the cross silences both the just and unjust accusations of Satan against us all. 
• Galatians 3:13

Read Scripture through the lens of the Father-heart of God. Stop believing the world’s ideas of God. Believe what He says about Himself. Trust His character.
