Scripture:

EXODUS 4:18-7:13

To Know Him

After this presentation to Israel’s leaders, Moses and Aaron went and spoke to Pharaoh. They told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Let my people go so they may hold a festival in my honor in the wilderness.”

“Is that so?” retorted Pharaoh. “And who is the Lord? Why should I listen to him and let Israel go? I don’t know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go.”

But Aaron and Moses persisted. “The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they declared. “So let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness so we can offer sacrifices to the LORD our God. If we don’t, he will kill us with a plague or with the sword.”

Pharaoh replied, “Moses and Aaron, why are you distracting the people from their tasks? Get back to work!  Look, there are many of your people in the land, and you are stopping them from their work.”

Exodus 5:1-5

My Takeaways

Something Old

But the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them orders for the Israelites and for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. The LORD commanded Moses and Aaron to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt.‍

Exodus 6:13

Something New

  • Who is your God?
  • That is the most important question you will ever answer.
  • The book of Exodus is a story that shows us who the real God is.
  • God wants everyone to know that He is God, and there is no other.
  • This theme echoes throughout the Bible.
  • In Exodus, we see this overarching message, “that they may know that I am the LORD.”
  • Know: yada: to know, learn to know, to perceive, to perceive and see, find out and discern, to know by experience, to recognize, admit, acknowledge, confess, to consider.
  • God wants Israel and the Egyptians to know Him.
  • God’s heart is for all people to know Him.
  • He will deliver His people and make Himself known through the plagues.
  • Israel will know that He alone is God.
  • Pharaoh will know that He alone is God.
  • The world will know that He alone is God.
  • The same God that met Moses at the burning bush and spoke to him, meets us in His Word and speaks to us there.
