But God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain.
Genesis 19:29
Motives matter in our decisions.
Lot took a long look at the fertile plains of the Jordan Valley in the direction of Zoar. The whole area was well watered everywhere, like the garden of the LORD or the beautiful land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)
Genesis 13:10
We can’t pursue holiness and hold hands with the world.
Lot lost sight of his true pursuit when he made the decision to take the plains of the Jordan Valley.
One decision can:
Even when we hold hands with world, God watches over and intervenes on our behalf.
A new thought:
Look, I have two virgin daughters. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do with them as you wish. But please, leave these men alone, for they are my guests and are under my protection.”
Genesis 19:8
The next morning the older daughter said to her younger sister, “I had sex with our father last night. Let’s get him drunk with wine again tonight, and you go in and have sex with him.“
Genesis 19:34
Were Lot’s daughters getting back at their dad for how he treated them?
If I pursue holiness, and the ways of God, my motives will be right… well, most of the time.
