Scripture:

2 SAMUEL 22:1-51, PSALM 18

Worthy Of Our Praise

I called on the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and He saved me from my enemies.

Psalm 18:3

My Takeaways

Something Old

David addressed and praised God with nine titles. David said God was his:

  • Strength: empowering him to survive and be victorious.
  • Rock: providing a place of safety, protection and offering security.
  • Fortress: being a place of strength.
  • Savior: making a way of escape when cornered.
  • Shield: defending him physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

“When he was conscious that the object of his worship was such as he has pointed out in the above nine particulars, it is no wonder that he resolves to call upon him; and no wonder that he expects, in consequence, to be saved from his enemies; for who can destroy him whom such a God undertakes to save?” - Adam Clarke

  • The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
    Proverbs 18:10 (ESV)
  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
    Psalm 46:1 (ESV)
  • No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.”
    Isaiah 54:17 (ESV)
  • But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
    2 Thessalonians 3:3 (ESV)

With all these assurances, how can we not expect continuous victory in our lives?

Like David, we can sing the praises of our Strength, Rock, Fortress, Savior, and Shield.

Something New

David wrote many songs. I wonder if he was a bass, baritone, or tenor.

Something to do

This song resounded in my soul as I prepared the lesson. I realize the sound and recording quality isn’t the best, but sing it out to the Lord… He is truly worthy of our praise.
