And the LORD replied, “Do as they say, and give them a king.” Then Samuel agreed and sent the people home.
1 Samuel 8:22
History
- They asked for quail, and got it. This turned out terribly for them.
- They asked for a king, and got one. This will turn out terribly for them.
Don’t think, trust.
- Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Proverbs 28:26
Truths to consider about prayer:
- Sometimes God will answer our prayer with yes, even though it’s not His best for us.
- God’s yes to our prayer will benefit us in the long run, but then it may take a while to get to the good.
- Pray in alignment with God’s will, even when we don’t know what that is.
- Motives matter. (like the other nations)
How to pray:
- Saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
Luke 22:42 (ESV)Â - Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10 (ESV)Â - Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Matthew 6:33 - Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
James 4:15 (ESV)
The Bible is funny about the details it includes: “He was old and overweight.”
When the messenger mentioned what had happened to the Ark of God, Eli fell backward from his seat beside the gate. He broke his neck and died, for he was old and overweight. He had been Israel’s judge for forty years.
1 Samuel 4:18
