When you are harvesting your crops and forget to bring in a bundle of grain from your field, don’t go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigners, orphans, and widows. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all you do.Â
Deuteronomy 24:19
I love that the plan of Deuteronomy 24:19, allowed the poor to be active in providing for their own needs while maintaining dignity.Â
This Levitical law is a matter of humanity, and giving to the poor is still a matter of humanity and dignity.
Poverty is timeless and it doesn’t discriminate, but is to be abetted by God’s people.Â
If a man is discovered committing adultery, both he and the woman must die. In this way, you will purge Israel of such evil.
Deuteronomy 22:22
This makes me think of the woman caught in adultery in John 8. They certainly didn’t follow this law in the John 8 situation.
Don’t neglect the poor. Let others see Christ in me through service and caring for others.
