NUMBERS 34:1-36:13

These Will Be Your Boundaries

Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your special possession, these will be the boundaries.

Numbers 34:2

My Takeaways

Something Old

“Like Canaan, the Christian life is a land of hills and valleys.”  - Warren Wiersbe

Paul said that purpose of the ancient boundaries for the nations to

  • Seek after God.
  • Find their way toward Him.

He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and He determined their boundaries. His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though He is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.
Acts 17:26b-28

God

  • Draws boundaries for us as well.
  • Knows what is best for us.
  • Wants us to seek Him.
  • Desires us to move forward toward Him.

Boundaries are to:

  • Establish trust with God.
  • Increase trust in God.
  • Provide safety from the enemy.
  • Establish freedom to roam.
  • Restrict our access to harm.

We have to live so close to, and dependent on God that we trust when and where He draws the boundary lines. He is trustworthy!

Something New

What a huge and horrible responsibility?

The victim’s nearest relative is responsible for putting the murderer to death. When they meet, the avenger must put the murderer to death.
Numbers 35:19

Something to do

Accept the boundaries God draws for me. Live fully and freely within His perfect places for me.
