Scripture:

NUMBERS 30:1-31:54

Vengeance Belongs To The Lord…

Then the Lord said to Moses, “On behalf of the people of Israel, take revenge on the Midianites for leading them into idolatry. After that, you will die and join your ancestors.”

Numbers 31:1-2

My Takeaways

Something Old

“The Moabites also were guilty, but God out of his own good pleasure, and in kindness to Lot, was pleased to spare them, because the measure of their iniquity was not yet full.” - Matthew Poole

God:

  • Administers vengeance.
Midianites seduced Israel into immorality and idolatry.
  • Extends grace.
Even though the Moabites wrongly hired Baalam to curse the Israelites.
  • Does not forget wrongful acts against His people.
  • Keeps His Word.

Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and so does grace, mercy, kindness, and love.

Wendy was also guilty, but God out of His own good pleasure, and in kindness, was pleased to withhold His wrath though her iniquity was great.

Something New

Numbers 31:25-54 Division of Spoils

God is constantly making His people prosper at the expense of their enemies. I find this incredibly interesting.

How long does it take to divide 675,000 sheep and goats, 72,000 cattle, 61,000 donkeys, and 32,000 virgin girls? How long does it take? (Numbers 31:32-35)

Something to do

Celebrate the kindness and good pleasure of God demonstrated toward me.
