Scripture:

EZEKIEL 40:38-43:27

Substance

After this, the man brought me back around to the east gateway. Suddenly, the glory of the God of Israel appeared from the east. The sound of his coming was like the roar of rushing waters, and the whole landscape shone with his glory. This vision was just like the others I had seen, first by the Kebar River and then when he came to destroy Jerusalem. I fell face down on the ground. And the glory of the LORD came into the Temple through the east gateway.

Ezekiel 43:1-4

My Take Aways

Something Old

They may still be Temple guards and gatekeepers, and they may slaughter the animals brought for burnt offerings and be present to help the people.

Ezekiel 44:11

Something New

  • God created humans in His image to dwell with them and be in relationship with them.
  • The setting was beautiful. Genesis 2:8-21
  • God walked in the Garden with Adam and Eve. Genesis 3:8-9
  • Adam and Eve had been exiled east of the presence of God.
  • The cherubim guarded the presence of God. Genesis 3:24
  • In God’s plan to dwell with man, He gave Israel the Tabernacle.
  • The Tabernacle furnishings were a reminder of the first sanctuary, the Garden.
  • Eastward movement out of the Garden is away from God’s presence.
  • Westward movement through the Tabernacle is a return toward God.
  • On the Day of Atonement the high priest is able to go past the cherubim on the veil, and pour the blood on the Mercy Seat between the cherubim.
  • The Shekinah Glory of God was in the midst of His people on the Mercy Seat.
  • Ezekiel sees the Millennial Temple.
  • There is no silver or gold in this Temple.
  • There is no veil in this Temple.
  • There is no Ark of the Covenant in this Temple.
  • The Glory of God is in this Temple.
  • Jesus sits on His throne in this Temple.
  • The substance will overwhelm the symbol.
  • Gaither Vocal Band – I’ll Worship Only At The Feet Of Jesus (Lyric Video)

Something To Do

God’s story is about His love for His people. He is always showing His love. May I continue to look for that in every place I read in Scripture.
