Good News!!

This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.Mark 1:1aMany people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.Luke 1:1-4In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God,and the Word was God.He existed in the beginning with God.God created everything through him,and nothing was created except through him.The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.John 1:1-5This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham.

Matthew 1:1

My Take Aways

Something Old

While Zechariah was in the sanctuary, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the incense altar. Zechariah was shaken and overwhelmed with fear when he saw him. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John.

Luke 1:11-13

Something New

  • Welcome to the New Testament!!
  • The Old Testament has shown us that we need saving!
  • The Old Testament has given us prophecy after prophecy to tell us of the Messiah that will come to save.
  • The New Testament opens to give us Good News…Messiah has come!
  • Four distinct views of the life of Jesus are given to us in the four gospels.
  • All four tell us the Good News of Jesus!
  • Matthew is written to a Jewish audience.
  • Matthew writes to explain to us that Jesus is the King…the Son of David.
  • Matthew quotes the Old Testament more than any of the other Gospels.
  • Mark is written to a Roman audience.
  • Mark writes to explain that Jesus is the Perfect Servant.
  • Mark shows us Jesus in action in ministry, beginning with His baptism.
  • Luke is written to a Greek audience.
  • Luke writes to explain that Jesus is the Perfect Man.
  • Luke writes his account based on eyewitness testimony.
  • Matthew, Mark, and Luke are known as the synoptic gospels. They tell the chronological story of the birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
  • John is an ordered account written to everyone.
  • John writes to explain that Jesus is God.
  • John writes for his audience to answer the question, “Who is Jesus?”
  • All four of the gospels are necessary to give us a clearer picture of the life of our Savior.
  • One book could never do it.

Something To Do

Read the gospels with an understanding of the purpose of the Gospel, and how that helps me see Jesus more clearly so that I can tell the people around me that desperately need the Good News that He came to bring!
