Next were the people from Tekoa, though their leaders refused to work with the construction supervisors.
Nehemiah 3:5
“Some people are constructionists, helping to get the job done. Others are deconstructionists, busy tearing things down. A third group is made up of obstructionists who create problems for the people doing the work. In which group are you?” – Warren Wiersbe
The people of Tekoa didn’t want to participate in the work,
The real issue was submission.
Even if our ideas are different, more efficient, and more economical, unless the leadership is leading against the ways of God or illegal, our responsibility is to work with our leaders. The key is to make sure we are following leaders who faithfully:
Don’t be the only people who “did not join the work of the Lord.”
When we accept an assignment from God, we WILL face opposition, however, we MUST complete the job.
I never noticed that the towers were named.
Then Eliashib the high priest and the other priests started to rebuild at the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set up its doors, building the wall as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and the Tower of Hananel.
Nehemiah 3:1
This is what I found out: The name perhaps refers to the height of the tower (100 cubits?), the number of its steps, or the number of troops in its garrison.
Don’t be a Tekoite.
