This is another message that came to me from the LORD: “Son of man, turn and face Gog of the land of Magog, the prince who rules over the nations of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him.“

Ezekiel 38:1-2

Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.”

Ezekiel 37:4-6

• Gog and Magog are referenced many times when discussing eschatology.
• Historically, Magog was a grandson of Noah. Genesis 10:2
• The descendants of Magog settled to the far north of Israel, likely Europe and Northern Asia.
• Magog seems to mean “northern barbarians” in general, but with some connection to Magog the person.
• These people are described as skilled warriors in Ezekiel 38 and 39.
• In Ezekiel’s prophecy, Gog will be the leader of a great army that attacks the land of Israel.
• Gog is “of the land of Magog”, the prince of Rosh, Meschech, and Tubal.
• Israel is peaceful and unsuspecting at the time.
• Magog will not win, God will intervene to preserve Israel.
• After the battle the people of Israel will be burning the enemy’s weapons for seven years and spend over seven months burying the dead.
• The nations will see God’s greatness and holiness.
• Gog and Magog will show up again. Revelation 20:7-8
• These are not the same people or events.
• It is a symbolic use of the names.
• The same type of rebellion.
