Son of man, sing a funeral song for Tyre, that mighty gateway to the sea, the trading center of the world. Give Tyre this message from the Sovereign LORD:
Ezekiel 27:2-3a
Five things to keep in mind about turning away from God and choosing to embrace this world and all it offers.
First, we have to realize disobedience has consequences, and Christians aren’t exempt from sin’s consequences.
Second, when we realize, through the conviction of the Holy Spirit that we sin, quickly turn from that sin, ask God to forgive us, and trust in His faithfulness to restore us.
Third, sometimes, even after repentance, we don’t get back what we had prior to our sin, but we can trust God to work out all things for His glory and our good.
Fourth, we can be confident that God will NOT permit those who hurt His children to get away with it. We are accountable for our behavior, and He is accountable for the redemption of our loss and the pain caused to us.
Fifth, we are all just one sin away from the possibility of losing what we have, and one decision away from the beginning of restoration.
Look at the past tense verbs in Ezekiel 28:12-19.
Wow. What have I had, that I know longer have because of my pride, because of my sin?
Live my life so my funeral song sings of a life that loved what she had, and lived for her Savior…to hold on to that.
