“So I brought them out of Egypt and led them into the wilderness. There I gave them my decrees and regulations so they could find life by keeping them. And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them and me. It was to remind them that I am the Lord, who had set them apart to be holy.“

Ezekiel 20:10-12

On August 14, during the seventh year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity, some of the leaders of Israel came to request a message from the LORD. They sat down in front of me to wait for his reply.

Ezekiel 20:1

• God chose a people.
• God delivered them from bondage.
• God set them apart through laws, sacrifices, feasts, and festivals.
• God made them into a nation.
• They were to be holy, like Him.
• Holy: set apart.
• They profaned God’s name.
• They disgraced and defamed the name of God.
• They treated that which is holy as common.
• They had forgotten their position as covenant people.
• They had forgotten their purpose to take Him to the world.
• It didn’t begin with “big stuff.”
• It started small.
• Sin always does.
• Before we know it, we have gone too far for too long.
• As Christians, do we treat sin casually?
• Would we rather say sorry than ask God to help us live lives of personal holiness?
• Ask that God would help us to honor His name when nobody’s looking.
• Ask that God would help us to honor His name with our every thought.
• Ask that God would help us to live as salt and light.
• Ask that God would keep us from profaning His name in any way.
• Holy is His name in our lives.
• Holy is His name in our churches.
• May we spread His holy name to the world.
